Cannondale is an American company that began manufacturing aluminum racing and touring frames in 1983, adding mountain bike frames later. The earlier Cannondale models sported oversized aluminum tubes for increased stiffness, resulting in frames that were super-stiff and super-efficient. Cannondale, later began producing carbon fiber frames that pushed the envelope in lightweight bicycles.
Cannondale's bicycle frame components are made in its factory in Bedford, Pennsylvania, and are also made in factories in Taiwan and Vietnam depending on the model of bike. The bikes that are produced in the USA boldly say "Made in the USA" on a downtube sticker.
Cannondale bikes are a very good value for those looking for road or cyclocross bikes. Though they originally garnered the nickname "Crack n' Fail" the production methods have reduced frame cracks in the last decade.

Cannondale Mountain Bikes
Cannondale mountain bikes featured the Headshok front fork shock. In this design instead of each fork legs having a shock built into it, there was one shock located in the fork crown. Many have said that the Headshok does not stand up to years of abuse and to stay away from all Cannondale mountain bikes that have the Headshok.
Cannondale Cyclocross Bikes
Cannondale also has made and still makes cyclocross bikes. Going to a cyclocross race, you'll see a number of racers out there on a Cannondale CX bike. Make sure when purchasing that it has a standard 130mm rear hub or if it's disc than 135mm should be standard. Ideally, if you're even somewhat serious about racing you wont want the Headshok cyclocross bike that was made and that will show up on eBay from time to time.
